In the screen printing industry, screenable adhesive, particularly the water-based type, is being used on a tremendous scale. The advantages of screen printing liquid adhesive over the traditional double side tape are obvious. Wastage is minimal that means great cut down on cost. 3M Company, being the world leader in the adhesive industry, is offering SP7533 and 6010 water-based screenable adhesive.
Adhesive Division
Supplies a board range of specialty adhesives to the industrial, commercial and consumer markets, as well as a line of aerospace products to aircraft builders, airlines and aircraft maintenance operations.

3M SP-7533
SP-7533
Heat Resistance Water Based
Screen Printable Adhesive
Description:
SP-7533 is a screen printable emulsion based adhesive that offers excellent adhesion, superior high temperature performance.
Superior adhesion on polyester, ABS and other High Surface Energy plastic.
Superior high temperature performance.
Offers excellent screen printability, can be printed with very fine screen pattern.
Does not attack ink and substrate surface since this is a water based product.
Does not contain solvent and therefore does not emit toxic gas during processing.

Application:
Attachment of graphic overlay in membrane switch applications in automobile, electrical goods and industrial equipments.
Attachment of low foaming materials.
Plastic and stainless steel panels attachment.
Equipment:
Screen printing machine is recommended for applying the adhesive.
Other Printing Accessories:
Stainless steel screen with 70 to 150 mesh is recommended.
(polyester screen mesh can also be used)
The best thickness (dry film) is 35 to 70 micron. Thinner coat of adhesive will result in lower adhesion strength. Thicker coat of adhesive can be achieved by controlling emulsifier thickness or squeegee pressure.
Since this is a water based adhesive, water resistant emulsifier and masking agent must be used.
Printing:
Ensure that the printed surface is free of dirt, oil, grease and other contaminants.
Stir the adhesive well before use.
Apply suitable amount of adhesive on the screen and ensure continuous production run to prevent drying of adhesive on screen. Drying on screen will increase the adhesive viscosity and result in poor printability.
Discard excess adhesive left over from each production run. Please DO NOT transfer excess adhesive back to the container.
Drying:
70 deg. C for about 5 minutes
50 deg. C for about 15 minutes
(applicable when printed using #100 mesh stainless steel screen)
Drying time is dependent on the coating thickness and substrates. The adhesive will turn from milky white to transparent upon drying. This can be used as a good indication as to when the adhesive can be applied onto the substrate surface.
Application on substrate surface:
Ensure that the substrate surface is free of dirt, oil, grease and other contaminants.
Ensure sufficient pressure is being applied.
In cases where liner is being used, ensure that the release coating does not migrate to the adhesive.
Cleaning of screen mesh
Clean the screen mesh immediately with water after each production run. Adhesive dried on the screen and inside the mesh can be removed using cleaner 30 and then rinsed with water. Better result can be achieved using air blower for cleaning.
